TETEΛΕΣΤΑΙ
IT IS FINISHED
John 19:30
JOHN 19:30
What does it mean?
When Jesus said "Tetelestai"from the cross, he wasn't expressing defeat — he was declaring completion. The Greek word means "it is finished" or "paid in full."
Merchants stamped this exact word on receipts when a debt was fully settled. Jesus declared that the debt of sin — carried by humanity since the fall — was paid in full. Nothing left to add. Nothing left to earn.
THE ACT
Crucifixion
On Golgotha, Jesus of Nazareth was crucified — bearing the full weight of human sin and separation from God.
THE DECLARATION
Tetelestai
"It is finished" — a Greek term stamped on paid-in-full receipts of the era. A complete, irrevocable transaction.
THE RESULT
Redemption
The debt was cancelled. The curtain was torn. Access to God — not earned, but given freely through faith.
